What is a Manual Payment Transaction?
A Manual Payment transaction skips the normal payment process, in the sense that the particular transaction has not been authorised through the Sage Pay Systems. It allows you to directly settle the transaction with your bank using a bank authorisation code which has been obtained outside of the Sage Pay authorisation process.
The most common reason for using this payment type is when a transaction, for example a high value transaction, has not been authorised immediately online by your acquiring bank. This may be because the transaction is a 'Referral', whereby the shopper's bank needs to perform further security checks on the card before authorising the transaction, or would like to speak to the shopper directly before allowing the authorisation to proceed. Alternatively, the customer’s issuing bank may freeze the card, as they may not be fully satisfied that a transaction is not fraudulent, and will require the shopper to contact them to confirm the details.
Once authorised, then Auth code which would have been allocated at the original request provided, can be processed as a manual payment to avoid your customer having to process the transaction again.
