Which cards can be set up on your merchant number?

Sage Pay currently supports the following cards:

  • Visa
  • Visa Debit (Delta)
  • Visa Electron
  • MasterCard
  • UK Maestro
  • American Express
  • Diners Club
  • JCB
  • International Maestro
  • Laser

 

*SOLO cards will be deactivated by MasterCard on 31 March 2011 so will not be supported after this date.


Please note that whilst we are able to accept corporate cards, we are unable to support the VGIS (Visa Global Invoice Specification) module which requires 'line item detail' features such as merchant and tax information.  Therefore any corporate cards that require this information are unable to be supported by Sage Pay.

 

The card types you are allowed to process are directly related to your Merchant Agreement that you have with your Acquiring bank. The cards you are allowed to process are agreed between you and your bank when you obtained your Internet Merchant Number.It also depends on the currencies you wish to accept.

GBP Merchants numbers can process all standard cards.

Multi-currency Merchant numbers can process all card types except SOLO (UK MAESTRO CAN BE USED WITH GBP AND EUR ONLY):

UK Maestro

 

Maestro card 

 

These are MasterCard Debit cards. Sage Pay will process the card types for UK merchants ONLY with settlement in GBP.

International Maestro

 

Maestro card


International Maestro can be used for multi-currency processing  and must be 3D Secured otherwise they will be failed.

 

Please note that Multicurrency merchant numbers can also process International Maestro cards provided your account is setup for 3D Secure.

Laser

 

Laser cards

 

Sage Pay can process Laser card* payments for EUR merchants only and can support Laser with the following merchant banks:

  • Allied Irish Bank
  • Elavon (Bank of Ireland/Alliance & Leicester)

*Laser card is a debit card in use only in the Republic of Ireland.

 

The following cards are processed through the Card issuer directly and a specific Internet Merchant Number is required from the each Acquiring issuer:

Amex & Diners Club

 

   Diners Club card

 

Amex and Diners Club process and settle their own transactions and require you to have an Internet Merchant agreement directly with them. You will not be able to process these card types unless you have an Amex, Diners and JCB Internet Merchant Number.

JCB

 

JCB card

 

We can process JCB payments for UK merchants ONLY, with payments and settlement in GBP, EUR & USD. Merchants will need to obtain an Internet Merchant Number for each currency that they wish to process.

NB: For Barclays Merchant Services & Natwest Streamline Merchants, you will be able to process this card type as long as these banks has set you up to do so. All other banks require a JCB Internet Merchant Number.

 

NB: When you register with Sage Pay you select the card types you know you are able to support. Selecting card types you do not support will cause transaction failures or settlement issues once you go live.
