Mat Peck
Mat has been working with computer technology since the age of 11, spending his teens involved with games and software development and becoming a well published writer for computer magazines such as Computer Gaming World and PC Review. He left university after gaining an honours degree in Biology and a Masters in Computing Science from Imperial College London. He then went on to work for Logica Industry on site at London Transport, maintaining a system that was used to collate information about bus ticket purchasing. This was his first introduction to nonstop systems. Mat then took a role at Xenova (small pharmaceutical company) building robots to carry out scientific experiments. He went on to build a network for the company and is proud to have delivered one of the first commercial e-mail systems. During Nov ’99, after contracting for two years, with the world on the edge of the predicted Millennium Bug meltdown, Mat found himself faced with two options; to work at games development company, or move into the payment industry with Protx. Mat took the job with Protx, where his role initially involved overseeing the live environment, and never looked back. After the dot com bust, Mat was one of the two employees who still had faith in the idea of the gateway and the software, and with some private investors, bought up the company out of administration and turned it around. Today Mat is Head of Research and Development at Sage Pay and has been with the company now for over ten years.
